Dance and Mystique – Original Picture Book & New Works –

本展では、絵本「まねっこだんす」の出版を記念し制作した絵本のシーンを切り取った原画作品と、「身体に内包 された神秘性」をテーマにした新作絵画の展示を行います。ダンスや身体表現を根源的なテーマにしながら、2 つの異なるアウトプットに挑戦した作品展をぜひお楽しみください。
This exhibition will feature original paintings of scenes from the picture book “Copycat Dance!” and new paintings based on the theme of “the mystery contained in the body.” We hope you will enjoy this exhibition of works that challenge two different outputs with dance and physical expression as fundamental themes.

【絵本「まねっこだんす」出版記念展示ステートメント】
「まねっこだんす」は、主人公のぷっぴが様々な生き物を真似た踊りを楽しみながら進んでいく物語です。私自 身が幼少の頃に感じた、踊ることへの純粋な楽しさを思い返しながら制作しました。登場する生き物や自然は多 くの人が身近に感じる存在を選んでおり、子供達が自然と仲良く共生していけるようにという想いも込めて描い ています。
“Copycat Dance!” is a story about the main character, Puppi, who enjoys dancing and imitating various creatures. I created this film while thinking back to the pure joy I felt as a child when I danced. I also chose creatures and nature that many people are familiar with, with the hope that children will be able to live in harmony with nature.

【新作展示「身体に内包された神秘性」ステートメント】
私が描く人物には、ダンスや身体表現という根源的なテーマがあります。そのテーマをもとに描き続けているうち に、彼らの堂々とした佇まいに惹かれていく自分がいました。そして彼らの中に見出したのは「他者の視線から の解放と絶対的な自身への愛」です。私の憧れや理想が投影されたその姿は、どこか神や仏のような気配さえ 感じます。
彼らが内包している神秘性をどこまで引き出せるか。私にとって絵を描くことは、自分の手から離れた神秘的な 像と向き合う作業となっています。
The figures I depict have a fundamental theme of dance and physical expression. As I continued to draw based on this theme, I found myself drawn to their imposing appearance. And what I found in them was “freedom from the gaze of others and absolute love for themselves.” Their appearance, which is a projection of my longing and ideals, is somehow like that of a god or Buddha.
I wonder to what extent I can draw out the mystery they contain. For me, painting is a process of confronting these mystical images that have left my hands.
